Every week, Staying in Closer Touch volunteers help preserve one of life’s most important bonds—the connection between an incarcerated parent and their child.
A single hour of your time can help a child hear a parent’s voice, receive a brand-new book, and know they are loved and remembered. Research consistently shows that maintaining strong family connections during incarceration benefits both children and parents, strengthens families, and can even reduce the likelihood of reoffending after release.
Whether you enjoy working directly with people, organizing information, selecting children’s books, or using your creative talents behind the scenes, there is a meaningful place for you on our team.

| Prison/Jail Reading Volunteers | Meet with incarcerated parents inside correctional facilities. Help them choose a special book for their child, record them reading it aloud, and encourage them to create a personal greeting card. Your kindness gives parents a chance to express love and remain an active part of their child’s life. |
| Recording Processing & Book Mailing | After recordings leave the facility, a volunteer prepare the digital recording, generate a secure QR code, and package the book, recording, and card for mailing to the child’s caregiver. Every package delivers more than a book—it delivers comfort, reassurance, and hope. (You can primarily work from home with occasional trips to the post office.) |
| Data & Program Tracking | Help us measure our impact by maintaining participant records and program data using Google Workspace. Accurate information allows us to improve services, report results to funders, and reach even more families. (Work from home.) |
| Social Media & Communications | Share the stories and mission of Staying in Closer Touch through Facebook, Instagram, and other digital platforms. This creativity helps recruit volunteers, inspire donors, and expand our ability to serve families. (You can work from home with occasional planning meetings.) |
| Book Selection & Supply Team | Help select high-quality books for children from infancy through young adulthood. Work with publishers and suppliers to secure the best books at the best prices while ensuring every child receives an age-appropriate gift they’ll treasure. (Mostly work from home with occasional meetings to prepare deliveries.) |
