Our Programs

Staying in Closer Touch works at two sites in Washtenaw County

• Women’s Huron Valley Facility is on the corner of Platt and Bemis roads. Two volunteers go each week.
• Washtenaw County Jail is on Hogback Road just east of US23 is a weekly visit to both men and women there.

Making an Impact

We measure our impact in both numbers and stories. Here are the numbers from 2023:

• 2 sites
• 208 visits per year
• 800 parents each year read to their children
• 3600 books are delivered to children each year

Stories

A mom told me that the first time her child received a recording she was so, so happy. But the grandfather who took the child to preschool said that every time they got in the car to make the drive the little girl said “play mommy.” So grandpa slipped the CD in the player and off they’d go.

A young mom walked in to select a book. I asked “how old is your child?” She replied three weeks, and I know it is early but I want my child to recognize my voice so when I go home. I want us to already have some bond established.”
